I Want Revival. Do You?

Updated: Mar 28, 2023

This past week, I have had so many different thoughts going through my head. I had trouble deciding what the Lord wanted me to write then I realized it was all connected.

What is revival?

The Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines it as the act of reviving or the state of being revised. An evangelistic meeting.

The KJV Dictionary Definition:

REVI’VAL, n. from revive.

1. Return, recall, or recovery to life from death or apparent death; as the revival of a

drowned person.

2. Return or recall to activity from a state of languor; as the revival of spirits.

3. Recall, return, or recovery from a state of neglect, oblivion, obscurity, or depression; as the

revival of letters or learning.

4. Renewed and more active attention to religion; an awakening of men to their spiritual concerns.

I want a revival. I want a renewal of the spirit of the Lord like I used to see. When I was a child, I remember going to a tent revival and feeling the power of God as we walked through the grassy field toward the tent. People would come early, take each other’s hands to make a circle around the tent, then pray for the movement of God to save lost souls, for healing, and to bind Satan from hindering the service.

Revival begins with fellowship with our brothers and sisters in the Lord who are of like mind. (1 Corinthians 1:10) For revival to come, we must desire and seek his knowledge, praying not just for ourselves but for our brothers and sisters, too, beyond the Sunday school lessons. The apostles met in the upper room to fellowship. (Acts 1:12-15) They started with prayer then Peter began to testify of the souls that were converted to Christianity and the miracles that had been performed in Jesus’ name. The day of Pentecost came when everyone was present in one place, in one mind, and with one desire – to be closer to Jesus and receive his spirit (Acts 2:1-5).

Fellowship with our fellow believers doesn’t mean it is just at the church on Sundays and Wednesdays. Fellowship can happen anywhere a group of like-minded people choose to assemble. Jesus was on a beach when people came because they heard that He was there. (Matthew 14:13-21). He fed the multitude of people with five loaves of bread and two fish.

When we seek more of Jesus and are determined to get a closer walk with Him, He won’t send us away. He will stay until we break the bread with Him. We must pray and build each other up so we can walk in the spirit of the Lord (Romans 14:19).

Revival can come when we seek and desire Him in everything we do, testifying to the grace and mercy He has shown us in our daily tribulations. The Bible was written to teach and inspire us.

“All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.”2 Timothy 3:16

The Lord has anointed individuals to teach and preach his words as he did in the Old and New Testaments, just as He anointed the people in the upper room on the day of Pentecost with His Holy Spirit. The Lord will let revival come when we preach His warnings and teach His wisdom. When we tell every man and woman about Jesus Christ, the Son of God, and that He died on the cross for us and rose three days later. Revival can start when we fellowship and worship with a glad heart (Habakkuk 3:18).

When I hear the song Revival by Jesus Culture, it gets me excited for revival to come.
