In some families, the mothers are the anchor that keeps everything together. She is a true north who holds everyone together on the right road to achieving their purpose in life.
A mother nurtures and provides love, warmth, and shelter in troubling waters.
A mother will work tirelessly to support the needs of her children. Working long grueling hours to see her children smile.
In the bible, there is the story of the two mothers and the infant swapped by the mother whose son died at night. (1 Kings 3:16-28) The two mothers came before King Solomon. The true mother of the living infant said, “O my lord, give her the living child and in no wise slay it.” While the other mother said, “Let it be neither mine nor thine, but divide it.” King Solomon knew who that real mother was in the response given by the first woman. A true mother will want what is best for her child, even if it is a great sacrifice for their happiness. Could you let another woman raise your child if it meant the child could live?
Hannah was unable to have children and prayed for a child. She prayed that if the Lord blessed her with a male child, his life would be dedicated to the Lord and raised in the temple (1 Samuel 1:11). The Lord answered her prayer, and when he was weaned (1 Samuel 1:22-28), she took him to the temple and once a year she went to see him and brought him clothes for the year. Could we love our own children like Hannah? Honoring a vow to the Lord and walking away?
As mothers, we want our children to have a good life without struggles. We pray for our children daily for their salvation, God’s blessings on their life, and God’s will to be done. We feel our children’s pain just as if it were our own. I can only imagine the pain Mary felt as she watched Jesus crucified, unable to comfort him only to watch his painful death on the cross of Calvary. Could we continue to believe in God, knowing that believing could mean death? Jesus tried to prepare those around him and his disciples for his death.
For he taught his disciples, and said unto them,
The Son of man is delivered into the hands of men,
and they shall kill him; after that, he is killed,
he shall rise the third day. Mark 9:31
A praying mother is a powerful thing. They pray without ceasing. They seek God’s guidance and follow the will of the Lord. A mother like Jesus will love you, care for you, and pray for your salvation.
