As I lay in my bed and slowly opened my eyes, I wished I could return to my dream world where I could spend a few more minutes with my husband holding my hand, reliving memories, and hearing him say, “I got you, Babe.” I feel the tears rolling down my cheeks, knowing I must face reality. I cry out to my savior, “Lord, Jesus, I need to feel your presence; I need to know I am not alone.” I sit up, taking a deep breath. As my feet touch the floor, a calmness washes over me. I can breathe because of God’s peace.
Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. John 14:27
Many times in our lives, our emotions feel like we are in a hurricane. We pray for guidance and comfort, for a moment to feel the presence of God, and to know that we are not alone in our moments of distress. Jesus answered our prayers just as he did when he and his disciples were on the ship (Mark 4:36-41) and a storm arose. Jesus stood up and said to the sea, “Peace be still,” and the water became calm again. In our faith, we can tell our “storms” to be still.
Jesus gave us the authority to defend against the enemy. Satan can use our emotions against us to weaken us by clouding our minds, so that our focus is not on him.
Behold I give unto you the power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you. Luke 10:19
In our weakest moments, we are the strongest because we rely on our faith in Christ to get us through our storm.
And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly, therefore, will I glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. Therefore, I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ’s sake; for when I am weak, then am I strong. 2 Corinthians 12:9 -10
We lean on Jesus, and he carries just as it says in the “Footprints In The Sand” poem, but if we can have faith in the storm why can’t we have that same faith when it’s a clear sunny day. When life is going well, we are lax in our faith and need for Him. He will still love and be there for us no matter our situations.
He blesses us when we praise him in our storms and our sunny days.
I am reminded of the song “Praise him, praise him, praise him in the morning. Praise him at noontime. Praise him, praise him, praise him when the sun goes down.”
Praise in our sorrows and in our happiness, for he will have mercy on us.
O GIVE thanks unto the LORD; for he is good: for his mercy endureth forever. Psalm 136:1
